I found a dead hamster in my son closet in a jar with the lid closed should I punish him?

He said that he wanted to see how long it took to sufforcate and to see how long it would take to see the bones. He is 8 yrs old and he told me it was funny. what should I do? Get him some psych help right away. Animal abuse is no joke. Make sure the child doesn't get any more pets . I would make an appointment with a mental health clinic..today.

He might need a psych evaluation, and you can discuss this with the family doctor. Personality disorders can include the behavior that you are describing, which need interventions started at his age to prevent them from getting out of control to move on to other things- including humans. It is disurbing that he found it was funny, but you seem like a caring parent and want to know what you should do about it. You mentioned he likes doing things "crazy," so something tells me that you may have a "gut instinct" that is giving you warning signs of something.

Thats actually cruelty to animals, and is punishable by the law. If you dont punish him now, what is he going to be doing to animals (or humans) when he turns 16 or 18?????

If you dont punish him now, that means you are accepting the fact HE JUST KILLED A LIVING CREATURE FOR PLEASURE. Just an idea you may want him to see a shrink, it does not seem normal for a 8 year old. They should know better than to harm a animal.
Nip that in the butt before he turns into the kind of adult we see on the news rotting in prison.



Most murderers started their "sickness" when they were children, usually dealing with animals.

That is certainly not healthy. Don't just ground him, try to find a therapist or something. That is pretty creepy.
This is the kind of child that ends up on the news for stabbing their parents or killing their siblings. That is a SERIOUS problem and something is REALLY REALLY wrong with your child. that is very very dark for a child to do and YOU need to punish him and get to the ROOT of this horrific problem before he suffocates YOU or himself. He's not ok mentally, period and action needs to be taken.
yes...we know about kids who harm animals at a young age.

I understand your concern for this is not a normal thing for a child to do. I would get him immediate help. I would not allow any pets into the house. He isn't that young to know that this is wrong. It is not funny and don't let him laugh at this. It was mean and cruel and he needs to know that.
Yes. Tell him that what he did was animal abuse. Tell him he can go to jail.

I would take away one of his favorite toys or ground him from the tv or something.

Children who do not learn to not inflict pain and torture to an animal will eventually do it to humans.
Take him to your minister/priest/ rabbi he needs some moral training. Though he might end up being a scientist they do that sort of stuff all time, and have been known to do it to people, like in WW2, too.

You should defiently punish him, thats animal abuse. What he did was wrong. He took an innocent animals life away. No offense, but i think you should take him to a therapist or something.
That may be an indication of some rather serious pyschological problems so have him evaluated. Punishing him without getting to the underlying issues might just make things worse

Yes, its common sense. To kill a living, breathing creature as a joke, is just unnaceptable. The poor hamster suffered, and you need to make him understand how severe this is. If you dont take action, he could target a stray animal, any other animals you have, ect ect. Ive seen this before, and its completly horror what these kids turn into, if only the parents would have stopped it when they where young.
