My dog goes crazy when we put her in her cage!?

We have a Great Pyranese/Doberman mix that is just over a yr. old. She is willing to go in her cage on her own but the minute you turn your back she starts going crazy. When we get home she is drenched in drool and so thirsty. We have tried feeding her in it- but then she defecates in it and makes a huge mess, mixed with her drool, we can not give her pillows or blankets or anything of that nature because she shreds it to pieces. We do give her toys like giant bones and the kong toys.( Those will last about a week) And we even give her the toys that they have to figure out how to get the treats out of, but nothing seems to work. He cage is 4 feet tall and she was able to climb out of it, but we have fixed that. Her cage is made of medal bars that she has broken several of. And we have had to file down the broken ones so she wont cut her paws. We are worried that she is going to really hurt herself and at this point we do not know what to do......My dog goes crazy when we put her in her cage!?
Bring her to a training school. It could be just anxiety.
would you like to be put in a cage if you didnt want to be put in 1?My dog goes crazy when we put her in her cage!?
Sounds like separation anxiety. Your dog acts like that because he or she needs attention, not isolation in a cage. You might want to think of an alternative to a cage. Perhaps a nice backyard with a fence?
DONT GIVE UP IF ITS ONLY BEEN A COUPLE WEEKS! SOMETIMES IT TAKES AWHILE. ITS UNFORTUNATE SHE IS OLDER. THE BEST ADVICE ON CAGE TRAINING A DOG IS TO MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS AS EARLY AS YOU CAN, 8 WEEKS IS THE BEST AGE. TAKE THE PUPPY OUT OFTEN, PLAY WITH IT, LOVE IT, FEED IT, REWARD IT WHEN IT POTTYS OUTSIDE, THEN PUT IT BACK IN ITS OWN SPACE. THIS WILL NOT ONLY HELP POTTY TRAIN YOUR BABY BUT IT WILL MAKE IT SO MUCH EASIER TO MANAGE AS WELL. THIS METHOD ALSO GIVES THE DOG A SAFE PLACE OF ITS OWN. BEST ADVICE I CAN OFFER FOR YOU SINCE YOUR GIRL IS NOT A PUPPY TRY TO GIVE HER GIANT FEMUR BONES AVAILABLE AT MOST GROCERY STORES INSIDE HER CAGE. 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 THEY WILL SIT DOWN AND WORK ON THAT BONE FOR HOURS. IF SHE DOESNT, SHE MAY NEVER ACCEPT BEING IN HER CAGE.
Wow, I have never heard of a dog defacating in their cage. That is very unusual from what I understand. Neither of my dogs has ever done that and they've been in a cage many times.

The way we crate trained our dogs was to open the crate door and let them walk in on their own to get used to it. We never put them inside and we didn't shut the door on them right away once they went inside. When we were trying to get them used to the cage we would try to have them go in there on their own at least a couple of times a day until we felt they were used to it. Then we would shut the door and leave them in there for a few minutes and then let them right back out. We did this quite a few times until they were comfortable. It was a slow process.

How long do you leave her in there? I don't suggest leaving her in there for more than a few hours at a time until she's REALLY used to it. Supposedly it's ok to leave dogs in their kennel for up to 8 hours but we never leave them in that long. I personally think that's way too long. If you are forced to leave her in it all day while you're at work then that's probably too long and you might want to consider another alternative. I don't recommend having a dog unless it has room to move around while you're gone all day. Otherwise it's just cruel. I'm not saying that to be high and mighty or anything, I'm saying it because I've learned so much from my own dogs in the 2 yrs we've had them and probably the most important thing is that they really do need to have the proper amount of time and care devoted to them. Otherwise they are most likely going to be lonely and/or very unhappy.

My only other suggestion is that maybe you could get one more dog to keep her company so she won't get so anxious while you're gone.

Good luck with everything.
Try when your home to put her in the cage for small incraments. If you mean quite literally that she acts up when you turn your back; VERY SMALL incraments. Then take her out and treat her. Try to treat her only if she didn't act up. Then eventually increase how long she is in there and repeat the same process. Pretty soon, she'll learn that being in the cage can bring rewards rather than discomfort.
