One dog and two bones?

Hi. I was listening to an old Devo song, "Freedom of Choice" and part of the lyrics are about a dog in Ancient Rome. The dog had two bones and the choice between them sent the dog crazy.

Have you heard of this story? Is it famous? Would this be considered mythology? One dog and two bones?
It's one of Aesop's fables. I've seen it with a bone and with a piece of meat. Anyway, the story goes that the dog had the bone/meat in his mouth and came to water where he saw another dog with what he thought was much bigger bone/meat in that mouth. So he tried to steal that, and in doing so, dropped his own bone/meat, before realizing it was just his reflection in the water, and he was left with nothing.

Moral of the story: Greed/never being satisfied with what you have will leave you empty-handed... or empty-mouthed in this case.

I wouldn't say it's mythology, but certainly folklore.

Kudos for listening to Devo! I still love their stuff.
The only thing close is that old fable where the dog has a bone, sees his reflection in the pond and thinks it's a second dog with a bone. He opens his mouth to take that bone too and loses the one he has.One dog and two bones?
i thought it was some type of game they played
