I literally watched my dog go crazy trying to hide it in the closet under fallen coats and on my bed under the blanketsWhy do dogs try to hide their bones?
LOL -- my dog does the same thing with rawhide treats. She tucks them between the sofa cushions and has even buried them in the potted plants. My sister's dog tried to hide a piece of cheese under my sister's pillow, but fortunately her husband was there to intervene. I think it must be an instinct to save food for later in case there's no food available. It's similar to squirrels that bury nuts.
In case you don't feed them, they have a back-up plan
So no one else can find it.Why do dogs try to hide their bones?
possibly there natural instinct? if they were in the wild they wouldnt just leave it lying around so someone could take it, they'd hide it and keep it safe for later.
They don't know you're providing them food for tomorrow, so they save it to have food for the next day.
