Is it true that when you get attacked you go crazy or freeze up?

My friend is taking selfdefense in gym and the trainer guy said that when girls get attacked they either freeze up or go crazy.

apparently in b.c. there was this girl and 7 guys were kicking her and she freaked out grabbed one guys ankle and bit the bone out of it. she then ran to the police station with his bone in her mouth. :/

is that true that you either freeze up or freak out?Is it true that when you get attacked you go crazy or freeze up?
Yes, the psychological term is "fight or flight." When under attack, humans either fight what is attacking them, or "flight" meaning run away.

We have no real way of knowing how we ourselves would react, but I suspect it would have to do with our natural personality. Are you naturally outgoing and fearless? Or shy and restrained? That probably would be an indicator of whether you would "fight" or "flight".
The real answer is that it depends on the person and their level of confidence in their ability to fight back or otherwise work their way out off the situation. Freezing up is a result of panic, which is a result a lack of confidence.

As to the story about the girl biting the bone out of the man's ankle... stranger things have been known to happen. The story might well be true. When a person is attacked, she gets an adrenaline rush, which temporarily (but really does) give him/her something like superstrength... it's the same effect that happens when mothers see their children trapped under wrecked/burning cars and then can lift up the car all by themselves. Is it true that when you get attacked you go crazy or freeze up?
