I bought my dog a 2 meter $15 chew bone and it was a very bad idea, at first he was excited when he saw but when he started on it he finished one end and was not interested in the rest of the bone/ My favorite products is the unbreakable flying disk you can have so much play time with flying disk and it doesn't break and favorite bones are dental chew bones with meat flavor he goes crazy over it and healthy the only problem he finishes it quit fast. What bones, treats or toys to avoid? and which would you recommend?
Avoid any treats made in China.
Manufacturers are VERY SNEAKY and usually have in large letters the Companies name and
DISTRIBUTED IN USA. That does not mean MADE in USA.
The Chicken Jerky Treats that Costco sells is notorious for this (Waggin Train brand)
The "Boots and Barkley" at Target products are another.
For treats the safest bet is to make them yourself. There are many websites that have recipes.
As for toys, only one of my dogs is hard on them- the 6.5 pound Pomeranian, so the toys are chosen for durability- that means no parts that can be torn off easily. One of his favorite toys is the Chuck it Balls. So far he has not been able to pull the fur off those like he can the other tennis type balls.
I have heard that rawhide bones are not good for your dog. From my on experience my dog used to chew the bones(she loved them) but when she got to the end when there is a small piece left sometimes should would chock on it and I would have to pull it out of her mouth. Just be careful on rawhide bones. Another thing with bones and treats make sure they are not made from China. There have been many dogs reported going ill or even passing away from Dog Treats with the flavor of chicken in them.
I would recommend Kong Dog Toys. These toys come in many different shapes and sizes. They are very durable to play with and last long. We have a few at our house for our Choc. Lab. She even plays with one while swimming. What bones, treats or toys to avoid? and which would you recommend?
i am a fan of pretty much ALL kong products because my dogs love them and the skineez.
they love the kong snake and the kong original with stuffing.
we are also fans of the dehydrated beef liver training treats =] also like boar bones, deer antlers and bones, beef bones. tanned hide (i tan deer hides from hunting season, clean it up and either cut it up and give it to the dogs or keep it coincidentally this is also where i get some bones and antlers nothig wrong with it as long as you clean it)
i avoid toys that are to tough (soft mouth dogs dont appreciate the super tough extreme chewer kongs), wont squeak or appear to breakable, rawhide. and anything with bells inside of it.anything made in Asia. or with corn or wheat in it
I do not recomend raw hide bones of any kind. This is just my opinon but I have also heard from proffesional trainers that they are something to be avoided.
