How to get rid of a dog's seperation anxiety?

We tried crating and he tried to chew his way out and cut himself up so we leave a marrow bone out but he goes crazy and poops and pees whenever we leave the house. We contacted a trainer that tried some things that didn't work What do i do?

INFO ON DOG:

Background: We adopted him back in July from a shelter. He was abandoned and he is 2 or 3 years old. When we take him outside he won't leave your side for a minute and he is really sweet but hasd terrible seperation anxiety. How to get rid of a dog's seperation anxiety?
If the dog has never been crated before, you have to gradually introduce them to it. You can't just put a dog in a crate and expect that it will be fine.

I would personally bring this up with your vet and have him recommend a behaviourist, not a trainer.
My old dog once took my clothes off the washing line and put them in his kennel. That may have been his way of dealing with it. Perhaps give your dog some old clothing (you have just been wearing) to keep him company. A large dog bone usually keeps many a dog busy for hours. I used to leave a radio on for my pet budgerigar for company! Perhaps try out several different types of toys that may take his interest; heard that "kongs" with treats inside can keep them quite busy. Perhaps check out some obedience dog clubs. The company and socialisation may help his confidence and he would more than likely look forward to the routine. If things are just too stressful for him see if you have a neighbour that may like to have him over for company. Elderly or lonely people may appreciate a little company during the day when you are out. Good luck. How to get rid of a dog's seperation anxiety?
Sometimes any change of environment, say from settling into your home from previously being in a shelter, can trigger feelings of anxiousness and anxiety among pets - both cats and dogs. How long did the trainer work with your dog? Was it just one session, or multiple? The veterinarian that we take our dog too offers behavior classes, you may want to inquire with your Vet so see what they suggest. I've been reading about a brand of pet supplements, Pet Naturals of Vermont. I'm looking into their hip %26amp; joint chews, but they offer both calming chews and another form; calming formula - http://www.ovitaminpro.com/shop-by-conce鈥?/a> Maybe you can consider looking into the benefits of those aids and even suggest them to your dog's vet. I hope this helps!
