What does it mean that we are made in God's image? I know He can't mean flesh and bones like He made Adam.?

Ok....me and some people had a discussion about God....they actually believe GOD THE FATHER....is made of flesh and bones just like Jesus...but I told them no...and they gave me scripture about...how He had hands and feet and so on...I'm not denying that at all...I truly believe in my heart that He has hands and stuff...but I think it is really deep to comprehend and understand because he is God of course and he is only going to reveal so much because I believe some people aren't ready and if He does and you tell somebody else they will think were crazy...but anyway I believe God is a spirit.....I explained to them that there is a total difference between essence and manifestation of God...and can't he take the shape of anything......and of course God is God he can do anything...so ummm anyway I need help..explaining to them that God is not made of flesh and bones...once you say that...you might as well throw Christianity out of the window...because that means he was created...Thanks...discuss with love :)What does it mean that we are made in God's image? I know He can't mean flesh and bones like He made Adam.?
God is spirit and so are we and his words speak life (they are spirit and life)

we too are spirit and our words create~good or evil~
Since humans are flawed, god is also flawed. What does it mean that we are made in God's image? I know He can't mean flesh and bones like He made Adam.?
Man was created in God's spiritual image.
we have great potential..
God doesn't have hands or eyes or feet; God is a spiritual being without form or body, and He is far greater than any physical being. Sometimes the Bible speaks about God's hands or eyes, but when it does, it is using symbolic language to convey some truth about His activity: "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).

When the Bible says God created the human race in His image, it means that God put His character or imprint on our souls or spirits. We aren't God—but we are like Him (although limited). Because of this, we have the ability to love, and to know right from wrong. Because we bear God's image, we are different from the animals, and all human life is sacred.

The tragedy is that God's image within us has been defaced and twisted by sin (although not destroyed). But Christ came to make us whole, and someday "we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2). In the meantime, make it your goal to grow closer to Christ and serve Him with all of your life.

The bible is not real. It is a book of fiction and everything in it from the old to new testament was ripped off from previous cultures, Persians, Babylonians;Etc. And Jesus never existed.

I might believe there is a God as a Deist/Pantheist, but I still see no evidence.
when it says image, it means that we were given some aspects that God had, such as having emotions

God has feelings and so do we.

God think for himself, so can we.

God can create a work of art, so can we.

It doesn't mean we were actually made in his shape and form. We were made i his likeness
it's what ever Chris says.
2 things are seperate: the body and soul/spirit.

The sould is the important thing whereas the body is not. The body is temporary the soul is eternal. The spirit of God can be in the form of a man just as you are.
We are a trinity and God is a trinity.

We are spirit, soul, and body.

No, of course not. Biologically we are made in the image of other primate creatures. But we also have a spiritual nature that is an intergal part of being human, and it is our spiritual nature that makes us in God's image and likeness.
If we were in his image, we'd be invisible too.
God made man in his image. Those are the words. But they could be interpreted differently...If for example, God had his own vision, like an artist, of how he wanted humans to be formed and appear, then he would create them in 'his image' meaning he made them according to his divine artistic vision.

Or, it simply means, and I think this is more likely, that he made human bodies to closely resemble his own. Like you, I believe that God is more spirit than flesh, but capable of appearing to us, as anything he might wish. Jesus was God's physical manifestation on Earth, his physical representative and messenger and a gift to us.
God, the father, is the greatest soul. It's only in this capacity that we are made in "his image". Each and every one of us has a soul that is made in his/her image. That soul is our true self.

It's true that we are Soul, Spirit and Body while in this physical existence. Our physical self is simply the temporary housing for our spirit body and within that, our soul. When the physical body returns the elements from which it came, our spirit body, an extension of our soul will remain.
You are correct.

1. God is spirit.

John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

2. Spirits do not have flesh and bones.

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

The Bible does talk about traits of God. This doesn't mean God is a great big chicken though!

Matthew 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.

So, how are we like God's image?

We have some similar qualities. One commentary mentioned love and joy.

Genesis 5:1 This is the written account of Adam's line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

Another commentary mentioned we were originally made pure and without sin

Ecclesiastes 7:29 This only have I found: God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes."

The image is broken, but it is being restored

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
You are partially right. ADAM was made in the distinct image of God.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. " [Genesis 1:27].

but Adam and Eve were the ONLY two humans made directly by God. ALL of the rest of us were made by the act of sexual reproduction. So technically, while ADAM is made in the image of God, WE are made in the image of ADAM. But Adam Is the distinct and accurate image of God, and thus so are we, by inheritance.

But to think that God "can't . . . take the shape of anything" is totally false. There are MANY instances where God took the shape of a MAN. "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden " [Genesis 3:8] How did God make sound while moving in the garden unless He was fully physically manifested? God physically manifested himself to Abraham in Genesis 18, and God wrestled with Jacob in Genesis 32. [There are MANY theologians that believe that "THE Angel of God" spoken about in the Old testament, was actually appearances of Jesus.]

But in John 4:24, Jesus himself says that "God is spirit". So what happened? It would appear that God changed his mind! [God can change his MIND, but His NATURE never changes.] Since He has Jesus working for Him on earth, I guess there is no longer any reason for God to appear PHYSICALLY, but that is my guess. The bible never explains why God no longer appears physically.

But JESUS is flesh and bone, having been born of an earthly woman. But that doesn't make him "not God". This is how The Trinity works!

Even YOU are a trinity! You have a physical body, a soul (your "personality"), and a spirit (or life force). ["spirit" and "soul are NOT the same thing, see Hebrews 4:12]. Separate any of the three from the other two, and you cease to exist! But if we are made in God's Image, through Adam, then why would you NOT believe that God is ALSO a trinity? God has a body (Jesus), a soul (God "himself") and a Holy Spirit. but God, being God, has abilities that we, being human, do not. We cannot separate body, soul, and spirit lest we die. God IS capable of having all three of his "parts" operating separately and independently -- Jesus on earth, God the Fatehr in Heaven, and the Holy Spirt working everywhere.

Sound like you need to do some REAL study, reading your bible CLOSELY, before popping off these weird ideas.
