Could K-9 Advantix be the reason my dog went crazy?

I have a 1 year 1 1/2 month old pit bull. I got him neutered on March 17th of this year. He has always been a very good dog. I've had him since he was 4 weeks old. He was born April 15th, I got him on May 15th, I've never ever had any trouble with him. He's always listened really well, very good temperament, he's always had a lot of energy, but all around he's always been a very good dog. Never ever once did he try to attack me or another person or even an animal. He loves everything. He plays with toads in my driveway after it rains. =P I've always given my dog the "aggression test", I would give him a bone or a treat or sometimes a toy and he would play with it a little bit and I would try to take it from him, not one single time has he ever gone after me or growled at me out of anger. Not once. So anyway, the day I took him to my vet to get him fixed they called me and told me the charge was going to be about $120. It was actually supposed to be free because the county I live in has a "Fix-A-Pit" program for all pit bulls and pit bull mixes to stop the pit bull fighting and fighting breeds. So I find out they charged me for tests that they didn't even tell me they were going to do (I'm not very happy with my vet for not informing me of these things). Come to find out, my dog had worms, so they gave him a heartworm medication for that and two pills for us to take home and give him two weeks apart, they did a fecal sample so they charged us for that, then they put some flea medication on him because apparently they seen a flea or two on him, and that was $18. This vet is so high strung so they don't even allow people to make payments or get on a payment plan. This was so sudden I didn't have the entire amount to pay them so I had to ask my dad for a small loan. Well we get it all taken care of and we were suggested to go to PetSmart and get a box of K-9 Advantix for dogs 55-60 pounds (I do believe). When I picked him up from the vet a few hours later he was calm and okay, and I didn't even notice they put some flea medicine on him. I don't know how they do that. But a month later I put some one him and between his shoulder blades was wet and oily for a few days. Then this month when I put some more on him and it was the same way. Well I gave him a rawhide bone and he wouldn't chew it or eat it, when everytime before he would. It would be gone in a matter of hours, but not this one. So he would tease me with it, act like he was going to drop it in my hand but run. Funny. So I was thinking maybe if I gave him another bone so he had two he would chew one of them up. But no, he had two in front of him on the floor and I was walking past him and he growled at me. No good. So I kneeled down next to him and I told him he was bad in a stern aggressive voice and he started shaking uncontrollably. Like as if he felt bad and he knew he messed up. So I locked him up and took his bones away. A little while later I let him out and gave him his bones back and he was okay again, playin' around and doing his thing. Then I went down next to him and went to take one of his bones to throw and he growled and then nearly ripped my finger off. I couldn't get him off my hand if my life depended on it. So he finally let go and I was so very shocked my finger wasn't broken. Anyway, is there anyway at all that the medication I gave him for fleas and heartworms could cause him to get vicious? I still have my dog I have not gotten rid of him because he didn't hurt me real bad and I just want some answers. He knows he messed up pretty bad, he sucks up constantly. I heard on the news or maybe on the radio that there are certain flea preventatives that could make a dogs brain go a little crazy and they do things they normally wouldn't do. My dog would NEVER attack me or growl at me for any reason. Even though he's a pit bull. He's a very nice loving dog. Regardless of his breed. If anyone knows anything, please tell me. It'll be greatly appreciated. =)

BTW, rude, vulgar comments about pit bulls aren't wanted. I know pit bulls have been ruled as mean dogs, but that doesn't mean every pit bull is. Thanks everyone! =)Could K-9 Advantix be the reason my dog went crazy?
Hello, okay so i'm a dog trainer and I have two pitbulls myself, I haven't heard of this before, but I would first recommend you contact K-9 Advantix and ask them if they have ever heard of this before, and see if they have any history of this happening. Next I would try and slowly rehabilitate him with toys and other things like bones. They can be tricky though, talking to a behavior expert would be best. Also going online to dog behavior websites can have amazing tricks and tips for you!
I really don't think it's the flea medicine, I think that your dog has just developed some mild food aggression issues. You can either work with him to curb the behavior, or just not get down in his face while he's eating. When you give him a bone, it's his bone. Don't mess with it, don't play with it or try to take it from him. Some dogs are just this way when they become adults. He's not a puppy anymore, so just watch it around his food.

For the record I think it was wrong for your vet to not work out a payment plan for you...most vets will do that.Could K-9 Advantix be the reason my dog went crazy?
that was the longest q I've read on yahoo answers. sorry you are going through all this.

It's possible. flea/tick products are pesticides and carcinogens and many esp OTC are linked to death and illness. (few can ever face this truth- http://www.simplesteps.org/greenpaws-pro鈥?/a> )

If that is the case, I would look for a licensed classical homeopathic vet who has experience in this. Join this yahoo group in the meantime and re-ask your q there you'll get help!

the most common side effect to advantix is a minor skin irration.

I think he is testing you or regressing in training it happens to all dogs at some point and most likely just needs a refresher of obedience.
