What is Daniel Day-Lewis eating in the last scene of " There will be Blood?'?

It looks like pumpernickel toast, but he keeps pulling stuff out of his mouth like there's bones in it. It's driving me crazy. What is Daniel Day-Lewis eating in the last scene of " There will be Blood?'?
I think its a steak and hes like spitting out pieces that have gristle or fat.
beef jerky

What is Daniel Day-Lewis eating in the last scene of " There will be Blood?'?
He's dead drunk in a bowling alley when he beats the kid to death with a bowling pin. Then the butler enters. He wasn't eating anything that I can remember?

But the character played by Daniel Day-Lewis was a dead ringer for a young Josef Stalin right down to the moustache, limp, accent, and nasty suspicious attitude. So I think that oil man was based on Josef Stalin as a young man.
Aaaah I don't remember. The movie was brilliant though.
